G4S Security Patrols

Safety and security on VCU's urban campuses are top priorities of the police department and university administration. For the second year, security professionals from G4S, a nationally recognized security firm, will supplement VCU Police by providing additional patrols throughout campus and at designated Academic buildings. These unarmed security units will operate under the direction of VCU Police, providing increased visibility in VCU’s efforts to enhance the safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Vehicle Patrols

In 2012, VCU Police added G4S security vehicles in response to a survey of the VCU community that showed the community wanted to see a more visible presence of police and security. The security patrols provide a high-visibility presence between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. daily during the fall and spring semesters. The security patrols provide coverage on the Monroe Park Campus and the MCV Campus, ensuring a constant presence even when officers are on calls for service. The G4S security vehicles are well marked and display flashing yellow lights.
