Parking Tickets and Reclaiming Towed Vehicles

Given the nature of our setting, parking at Virginia Commonwealth University can be a challenge. Street parking is available on both campuses; be sure to pay attention to posted signs. Parking patrols step up ticketing enforcement when classes are in session. Tickets can be expensive, and the city will boot your car for three unpaid tickets.

A pedestrian walk sign activated at the intersection of W. Main Street and N. Laurel Street as pedestrians safely walk through the crosswalk.

Reclaiming Towed Cars

Occasionally, busy schedules and other commuter distractions can result in a failure to notice parking restrictions. If you find that your car has been towed, don't panic. Follow these easy instructions to reclaim your vehicle.

If your car was towed from a city street:

  1. Seibert’s Towing holds the towing contract with the city of Richmond. To verify that they have your car, call (804) 233-5757 and provide them with:
    1. Your car’s license plate number. (If you are not sure of your license plate number, call the VCU Police for assistance at (804) 828-1196 or use one of the campus Emergency Reporting Telephone System phones.)
    2. A description of your car.
    3. The location from which it was towed.
  2. Be sure to ask how much the towing fee is and what form it must be in — cash, check or charge.
  3. If they have your car, you must reclaim it at the Seibert’s Tow Lot at 642 W. Southside Plaza Drive. This is in the Southside Plaza Shopping Center at the intersection of Hull Street and Belt Boulevard.

If your car was towed from private property:

  • Determine which private towing company is contracted by the owner of the property to remove unauthorized cars.
  • Call the towing company and verify that they have your car. Be sure to ask how much the towing fee is and what form it must be in — cash, check or charge.
  • If you need transportation to the location where your car is being held, call (804) 358-4782 and ask which GRTC bus(es) to take from the VCU area to your desired destination.

If your car was towed from VCU property:

For cars towed from university parking lots, call the VCU Parking Office at (804) 828-8726 (Monroe Park Campus) or (804) 828-0501 (MCV Campus).
For cars towed from any VCU property other than a university parking lot, contact the VCU Police at (804) 828-1196.
